Frequently Asked Questions About Working with Your Therapist at Power Within Mental Wellness

How can therapy help me?

Therapy can provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It can help you gain insight into your challenges, develop coping strategies, improve your relationships, enhance self-awareness, and promote personal growth and well-being.

How long does therapy take?

The duration of therapy varies depending on several factors, including your specific goals, the complexity of the issues you're facing, and your personal progress. Some individuals may find short-term therapy beneficial, spanning a few weeks or months, while others may engage in longer-term therapy for more in-depth exploration and support.

What can I expect in a therapy session?

During a therapy session, you can expect a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings. Your therapist will actively listen, ask questions, and provide guidance or insights tailored to your needs. Therapy sessions can vary in structure and approach, depending on the therapeutic modality and the goals you're working towards.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is confidential within legal and ethical limits. Therapists are bound by professional standards and regulations to maintain the confidentiality of their clients' information. However, there are exceptions where therapists may be required to breach confidentiality, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases involving abuse or neglect. Your therapist will discuss the limits of confidentiality during your initial sessions.

Is therapy only for people with mental health disorders?

No, therapy is not solely for individuals with diagnosed mental health disorders. While therapy can be beneficial for managing and treating mental health conditions, it is also valuable for personal growth, relationship issues, life transitions, stress management, and enhancing overall well-being. Therapists work with individuals from all walks of life, addressing a wide range of concerns.

Can I bring my partner or family to therapy?

Absolutely. Therapy can involve individuals, couples, or families, depending on the dynamics and goals of the clients involved. Couple therapy can help strengthen relationships, improve communication, and resolve conflicts, while family therapy can address family dynamics and support positive change.

How Often Should I Go To Therapy?

The recommendation is for therapy to be weekly for the first 2 months. This is so we can get to know one another and build a secure relationship that the therapeutic work is done on. From there we can be more flexible depending on where you find yourself and the issues presenting.

Do You Accept Insurance?

We are committed to your privacy, confidentiality, and want you to have complete control over your health records. Submitting a mental health invoice for reimbursement carries a certain amount of risk to your confidentiality, privacy and future capacity to obtain health or life insurance or even a job. That is why we do not directly bill your insurance. We can, upon request, provide you with receipts and a coded visit bill (called “super bills”) which you may submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement if you choose. We encourage you to check with your insurance regarding the specifics of your policy.
